Mae McGlumphy, 96, Grand Army of the Republic Member

Photo of Mae McGlumphy Mae McGlumphy, 96, (nee Rose) of Lorain was called home on Sunday, April 3, 2011, while in the care of the New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain.

Mrs. McGlumphy was born in McMechen, WVA on May 2, 1914, the daughter of the late John and Ethel (nee Dean) Rose. She has been a resident of Lorain since 1990.

She was a member of First Christian Church of McMechen West Virginia. An active member; she taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a Sunshine Lady. She attended the Community United Methodist Church of Elyria.

Mrs. McGlumphy was the retired owner of a "corner" grocery store in West Virginia and for many years worked as a private duty LPN. She was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. At both the local level and state level, she held the offices of President, secretary, and treasurer. She was an active leader with the Girl Scouts of America.

Mrs. McGlumphy is survived by her sons Rev. John (Evelyn) McGlumphy of Sheffield Lake, Mack (Susan) McGlumphy of Springfield, VA, daughter Sharon Nickerson of Lorain, 11 grand children, 11 great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, She was preceded in death by her husband Charles A. McGlumphy on September 25, 1992, stepson George McGlumphy, brother Delmont Rose and a sister Edna Farley.

Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. Additionally friends may call on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechan Chapel, 214 Marshall Street, McMechen, West
Virginia 26031 from 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Altmeyer Funeral Home in McMechen with her son, Rev. John W. McGlumphy officiating assisted by Rev. Rodney Hubbs, pastor of the First Christian Church in McMechen. Burial will be in the Halcyon Memorial Park in McMechen.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 30 Fourth Street, McMechen, WVA 26040.
