Ada R. Kirkpatrick, 79, Enjoyed Bowling & Bingo

Photo of Ada R. Kirkpatrick Ada R. Kirkpatrick (nee Bills), 79, of Elyria died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at her residence following a short illness.

She was born September 3, 1931 in Legonier, PA, and moved to Lorain in 1950 where she lived until 1954. At that time she moved to Chicago, IL, to enter nurses training at Mt. Sinai Hospital, School of Nursing. She graduated as a registered nurse with national reciprocity in 1957. She then attended Loyola University, earning her Bachelor's of Nursing Degree, majoring in geriatric nursing and ward management.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick was instrumental in establishing the first children's psychiatric unit in Chicago, IL. She held a position as Director of Nursing for a chain of 19 nursing homes until 1967 in Chicago. She then moved to Westlake, where she resided until moving to Elyria in 1978.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a member of the A.S.P.C.A. and the Humane Society of the U.S. for many years. She was also a supporter of several police and sheriff's organizations and supported the local Special Olympics. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, reading, playing pinochle, spending time with her loving grandchildren and caring for her many dogs and cats over the years.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick is survived by her adoring daughters: Aimee J. (Dave) Snow, and Debra L. (Lee) Wilburn, both of Elyria, cherished grandchildren: Leah (Ken), Scott (Jenni), Jason, Janeen, Lutz, Jennifer, great grandchildren, Zachary, Zoey, Dylan, Kyle, Jillian, Sasha, brother George R. (Joy) Bills of Granite Bay, CA. many adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. in 1993, her father Roy S. Bills, her mother Azile (nee Berkley) Kerr, stepfather John Kerr, her twin sister Ana Silvis and nephew Stephen Silvis.

Friends may call on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Abraham Fiodembo, Cleveland Clinic Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
