Valeria Yolanda �Wally� Konecny , 87, Loving Mother and Grandmother

She was born on July 14, 1923 in Lorain, where she remained a lifelong resident.
She was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1941A. She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter and a former member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for 86 years, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Holy Trinity Seniors, and volunteered at various church projects.
During WW II, Valeria worked at Army Ordnance, stationed at the former National Tube Company. After the war, she worked at the War Assets and Reconstruction Finance Office in the Federal Building in Cleveland, Ohio and at Zemanek’s Party Cakes in Lorain.
She was a member of Lorain Community Hospital Auxiliary, American Slovak Club Auxiliary and Slovak Sokols Wreath 111. She was also a member of the Cross Town Club for 66 years.
Valeria is survived by her daughters Barbara (Tom) Wasco of Beaumont, California, Patricia (Gary) Herrington of N. Hutchinson Island, Florida, and Karen Konecny of New Braunfels, Texas; grandchildren Allison and Jon Renz of Florida, Matthew Wasco of Texas and Andrew Wasco of California; her great-grandchildren Ashley, Kurtis and D.J. Wasco of Texas and nephew Bruce Skibo of Lorain. She also had three other nephews and two nieces.
Valeria was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Nickolas T. Konecny in 1986, grandson Daniel Wasco, parents George and Mary (nee Randiak) Pallo, and sister Cecelia Skibo.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Gluvna- Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, where members of the Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 5:30 PM. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Reverend Craig Hovanec, pastor of the parish, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggests donations be made to Capital Campaign Fund at the Catholic Church of St. Peter.
