Julia Kerekes , 96, Avid Fan Of The Cleveland Indians

Photo of Julia Kerekes Julia Margaret Kerekes (nee Sokol), age 96, of Lorain, died Saturday April 23rd at the Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin.

She was born in Lorain on January 28, 1915 and remained a life-long resident of the city.

Julia was a long-time parishioner of the former St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Lorain and was currently a member of its successor parish, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini.

In her free time Mrs. Kerekes enjoyed sewing and solving word find puzzles. Additional interests included collecting stamps and following the Cleveland Indians.

She is survived by her daughter Margie A. (Gary) Vargo of Amherst, by grandchildren Anthony Vargo of Wellington and Donna Vargo of Amherst, by her great granddaughter Sarah Vargo residing in Quaker City, Ohio, along with several nieces and nephews..

She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew in 1949, by her parents Michael and Anna (nee Spisak) Sokol, by her sister Irene Sakach, and by brothers Steve Sokol, John Sokol, Michael Sokol, Jr., Dash Sokol, and Joseph Szakal.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.

Funeral services will begin Friday, April 29 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive with Reverend John C. Retar, pastor of the parish presiding.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
