Stephen Matotek, 62, CenturyTel Retiree, US Army Veteran
Stephen J. Matotek, 62, of Amherst Township, died Thursday April 28, 2011 at his home.He was born December 26, 1948 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain/Amherst Township resident.
Steve graduated from Marion Steele High School in Amherst. He served with the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Steve retired from CenturyTel where he worked as a cable splicer for over 30 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, fishing and boating.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Barbara (nee Tomasek), children Melissa Cancar (Dejan) of Lorain and Scott Matotek (Angie) of Amherst, granddaughter Elena Cancar, brother Dennis Matotek (Shelly) of Amherst, sister Michele Bartlome (Jim) of Lorain and nieces and nephews Jeremy Edwards (Teresa) of Olmsted Falls, Jillian DiFillipo (Mike) of Amherst and Tim Sprague (Amanda) of Delaware.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Stacey Lynn Matotek and parents Ludwig and Olga Matotek (nee Obreza).
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 pm until the time of funeral services at 8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Paul Heise, deacon of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, will officiate.
Cremation will follow and a private family interment will be held in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township at a later date.
