Ethel Moore, 91, Personnel Specialist For Several Northcoast Manufacturers

Photo of Ethel Moore Ethel Moore, (nee Sperka), age 91, of Avon Lake, and formerly of Lorain, passed away Tuesday May 31st, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a brief illness.

She was born in Lorain on October 12, 1919 and had been a resident of Avon Lake since 1958.

Ethel was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1937-B. She went on to graduate from Spencerian College in Cleveland in 1938 as a steno typist.

Mrs. Moore was initially employed in the Personnel Department of Thompson Products in Cleveland. She later served in the same capacity at American Ship Building Company in Lorain during the war effort. Following that firm’s production fulfillment of minesweepers and military frigates, she moved on to serve as a secretary to the plant manager at Nelson Stud-Welding. She completed her professional career in the Personnel Department at Fruehauf Trailer Company in Avon Lake.

Ethel was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. She was a member of the Lakeland Women’s Club, as well as the Lively Avon Lakers, and the Troy Senior Wellness Group. She was a former member of both the Towne Club and the City Club Auxiliary.

In her free time she enjoyed golf.

Survivors include her daughter LoraLee Wilson (Darryl) of Lorain, and grandsons Derek (Lauren) Wilson of Avon and Dane Wilson of Lakewood along with four nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband William F. Moore in 1991, by an infant daughter Annette, by her parents Mark and Anna (nee Muzik) Sperka, and by her sister Anne Porter.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Graveside services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, 555 North Ridge Road, Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, Pastor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain will officiate.
