Dick Brezina, 70, Machinist At American Crucible and Beco Tek

He was born in Lorain on February 27, 1941 and remained a life-long resident of the city. Dick was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1958.
Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he fulfilled duty assignments aboard the USS Waldo County (LST 1163). Upon his discharge, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Brezina was employed as a machinist with the American Crucible Company and its successor Beco Tek; he retired in 2004.
Dick was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church as well as the Catholic Church of St. Peter both in Lorain. He was also a member of Slovak Catholic Sokols Wreath # 111 as well as St. Ann’s Lodge of the F.S.C.U.
He was a life member of Amvets Post # 47 in Lorain, as well as a member of Amherst Eagles Aerie # 1442 and the American Slovak Club. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, boating, and attending picnics and cookouts. He was also an ardent spectator at his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his son Tom (Chrissy) of Amherst, by grandchildren Tyler and Gabi, and by his sister Mary Lou Berezina also of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his father Michael in 1996 and by his mother Margaret (nee Onderick) in 1998.
Visitation will be Sunday June 5th from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive in Amherst. The Reverend Lawrence Martello, M.Div., Pastor of St. Joseph Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
