Eleanor R. Whitaker, 82, Enjoyed Baking and Gardening

Photo of Eleanor R. Whitaker Eleanor R. Whitaker, 82, (nee Sakal) of Lorain passed away at her home on Thursday, June 2, 2011 following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Whitaker was born in Lorain on October 19, 1928, the daughter of the late Joseph and Esther (nee Czene) Sakal.

She was a graduate of Clearview High School. She was a member of Hungarian Reformed Church in Lorain.

Mrs. Whitaker was a retired cleaning matron from Lorain Board of Education primarily at Homewood School. She retired in 1991 following 23 yrs of service. She worked at General Industries in Elyria prior to working for the school system.

She was a member of the Buckeye CBer's Club and was a former member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, gardening, playing pinnochle, bingo, and watching Cleveland Indians Baseball. The love of her life was spending time with family and friends, especially the Saturday night gatherings.

Mrs. Whitaker is survived by her daughters Roberta L (Dale) Smith, Kimberly A. (Dennis) Edwards, Rebecca M. Whitaker, with whom she made her home, all of Lorain., grandchildren Melissa (Jose) Colon, Melanie and Susan Smith, great grandchildren, Kayla, Leland and Kaden Colon, and a brother Alexander S ( Julia) Sakal of Elyria.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William H. Whitaker in 2005, granddaughter Shelley M. Smith in 2007, grandson, Connor W. Whitaker in 2009, sisters Goldie Sakal, Margaret Razo, Elizabeth Tomkins, Irene Tomsco and brothers Joseph Sakal, Jr., and Steven Sakal.

Friends may call Friday, June 3, 2011 from 5-9 pm. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W 5th Street, Lorain. Prayer services will be at 8:00 pm.

Additionally, friends may call Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 10 am until services at 11 am in the Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st Street, Lorain. The Rev. Peter L. Toth, pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church will officiate.
