Rudolph Concheck, 83, Goodrich Retiree
Rudolph A. Concheck, 83, of Lorain, died Thursday June 2, 2011 at Life Care Center of Elyria.He was born November 14, 1927 in Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain since 1947.
Rudy graduated from North Union High School in Uniontown, Pennsylvania where he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol.
Rudy worked at National Tube Company in Lorain and the Fruehauf Trailer Corporation in Avon Lake for 4 years. He was drafted into the military and served in Korea with the US Army 24th Division Artillery as a Radioman in 1951. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Medal.
Rudy graduated from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Math minor.
He started working at BF Goodrich in the works technical lab in Akron. He transferred to the Avon Lake General Chemical Plant in 1957 and worked as a shift chemist in the production lab for 3 years and special projects for 1 year. Later he worked as a compounding specialist for 6 years then in the General Foreman Building #438 for 3 years and as a special process engineer PVC for 22 years.
Rudy was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain and a regular attendee at St. Anthony devotions. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed baseball, football, bowling and music.
He is survived by his daughters Janine Akosi (Joseph) of Amherst, Marian Buzzard (Paul) of Westlake, Jean Machovina (Kenneth) of Elyria, Joan Joviak (Eric) of Grafton, Carol Schlievert (Dave) of Amherst and Karen Sommers (Kelly) of Bay Village, 8 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, sisters Eleanor Glover (Gerald) of Uniontown, PA, Sister Rosemary Concheck, OP of Lancaster, PA, Rita B. Koncheck of Elyria and Ruth Geierman of Sheffield Lake and brothers Daniel Concheck (Georgianna) of Lorain and Joseph Concheck (Faye Margaret) of Canal Fulton. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Concheck (nee Seskar) in 1989, parents Charles and Veronica Koncheck (nee Tomko), brothers Carl, Louis and Steve Concheck and sisters Irene Koncheck, Wilma Koncheck and Catherine Bodnar.
The family will receive friends Sunday 4-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain and on Monday from 10:30 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Richard Hudak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
