Richard Kovacs, 64, Beaver Park Yacht Club Commodore

Photo of Richard Kovacs Richard C. Kovacs, age 64, of Lorain, passed away at his home on Monday June 6th, 2011 with his wife by his side following a lengthy battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

He was born in Lorain on August 22, 1946 and remained a life-long resident of the city. Dick was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1960.

He went on to serve in the United States Army during the Viet Nam Conflict where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Communications Specialist stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Mr. Kovacs retired as a Machinist from the Moen Corporation in 2005 following a career that spanned thirty-eight years with the manufacturer.

He was an avid boater and held a Captain’s License. Dick was the Commodore of the Beaver Park Yacht Club and loved spending every available free moment on Lake Erie with his family. In addition, he was an ardent Cleveland sports fan who never missed a Browns game. He also loved spending time with his granddaughter, Paige, with whom he shared his love of boating.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years Susan (nee Hershey), along with his son Richard, C. (Lesia) Kovacs, Jr. of Lewisville, Texas, his daughter Kimberly Murphy (Rick Shawver) of Lorain, his brother David Kovacs of Lorain, his sister Patty (Don) Butcher of Lorain, and his granddaughter Paige also of Lorain, He also leaves step-grandchildren Alan and Amber of Lewisville, Texas, Rickie, Katlyn, and Evan all of Lorain, and his great granddaughters Teagan from Lewisville,Texas, and Madison of Lorain.

His parents Julius and Helen (nee Brehm) Kovacs preceded him in death.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Robert Daugherty officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon where military rites will be conducted by the officers and members of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
