John McBennett, 76, US Army Veteran
John McBennett, Jr., (aka Red or Mac), 76, died Thursday, June 09, 2011, after struggling with COPD for several years.
John was born and raised in Lorain, Ohio. He served in Germany with the US Army during the Berlin Wall Crisis in 1960. After the service John became a car salesman and later sold home improvements. His favorite pastimes were reading spy novels and watching reruns of Law and Order.
He is survived by his loving children, Joan (Bruce) Drazen, Cleveland, OH and J. Brian, Pittsburgh, PA.; and his former wife, Nancy, with whom he resided; he was the proud grandfather of Shelby Drazen, J. Andrew "Andy" and Shaun McBennett, Clearwater, FL; sisters, Catherine (Bill) Beier, Norwalk, OH and Sarah McBennett, S. Carolina; brothers, Patrick (Carol), Birmingham, OH. and James (Martha) of S. Carolina; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Sarah McBennett; sisters, Mary Ann Schroeder and Charlotte Loder.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 3-7 PM. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, June 13, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial services will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH (Thursday meet at funeral home at 8:00 AM).
