Emil Cyran, 86, Fisher Guide Division Quality Control Specialist
Emil L. Cyran, age 86, of Amherst, passed away Sunday June 19, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness.
Emil was born in Lorain on February 17, 1925 and had been a resident of Amherst since 1960.
He was a veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Private First Class attached to the Medium Tank Battalion based at Fort Hood Texas.
Emil was employed as an Inspector, and later as a Quality Control Specialist for General Motors Fisher Guide Division in Elyria; he retired in 1980 following a career that spanned thirty-four years with the automaker.
Mr. Cyran was a life member of both Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the VFW in Lorain, and Elmer Johnson Post # 118 of the American Legion in Amherst. He was also a member of the Lorain Liedertafel Club, the United Polish Club, and the American Slovak Club.
In his free time he enjoyed walking.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years Betty J. (nee Pruzek), by his son Larry residing in Carlisle Township, and by daughters Cathie Ody (Jim) of Lorain, and Monica McKelevy and Janet L. Cyran (fiancé Dwayne Vargo) both residing in Amherst. He also leaves six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Emil was preceded in death by his parents John and Agnes (nee Novak) Cyran, by his brother George, and by his sister Ann Ivan.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity BVM Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue in Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where military honors will be conducted by American legion Post # 30 and VFW Post # 451 both of Lorain.
