Ernest Kalo, 80, Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ Member

Photo of Ernest Kalo Ernest Z. "Ernie" Kalo 80 of Lorain passed away surrounded by his family Sunday June 26, 2011 in Cleveland Clinic.

He was born September 20, 1931 in Lorain and was a life long resident.

Mr. Kalo was a self employed television repairman and worked as a repairman for Sears for 19 years. He also worked as a clerk for the State Liquor Control Board stores in Lorain and Cuyahoga counties.

He served in the Air force during the Korean War.

Ernie was a Member of Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ, Lorain, where he recently received an award as Honorary Consistory Person, having served of the church board for 23 years. He was also the head usher there for 23 years and building chairman. He was a secretary of the churches Brotherhood for 5 years. He was a member of the American Hungarian Council and the Magyar Barati Kor, Hungarian Reformed Sick Benefit Society and the AMVETS. Ernie enjoyed golfing and gardening and loved to spend time with his family.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years Ruth Kalo (nee Eddy); his son Ernie (Patricia) Kalo, Jr. of Lorain; daughter Derris (Floyd) Lents of Sheffield Village; brother Frank Kalo of Lorain; sisters Irene Retay of Amherst, Helen Murray of Lorain and Theresa Makay of Vermilion; grand children Branden, and Natalie Kalo and Katie Daum and great grandchildren Solo, Liza and Milos.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Theresa (nee Szerecsen) Kalo and Frank Vass; son Lewis Kalo; brothers Joseph and Charles Kalo and Jason Kalo.

His family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 P. M. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, (440) 277-8164. Friends may also call Thursday from 10 until time of service at 11 A. M. in Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 East 31st Street, Lorain. The Rev. Peter Toth, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio. Where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
