Juan Nieves, 77, Treasured Time Spent with Family and Friends

Photo of Juan Nieves Juan Ismael Nieves, Sr., 77 years of age, descansando en la viña del Señor, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born on June 17, 1934 in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. Moved to Lorain in 1971, was employed with Elyria Foundry and retired in 1983.

Juan was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, the Santo Nombre Society, the San Vicente Society and a cursillista. He treasured his time spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing jokes, telling stories, watching the Cleveland Indians, the Chicago Cubs, playing dominos and the lottery, socializing at the El Dorado and praying the rosary.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years Isidra (Pagán); daughters Iris (Robert) González and Aracelis [Chelly] (Harold) González of Lorain; son Juan I. (Georgine) Nieves, Jr. of Elyria, his grandchildren Bart, Jose, Jesus, Luis, Juan, Andre, Ana, Antonio, Mercedes, Juan III, Anysa; his great-grandchildren Gabby, Nathaniel, JJ, Fabian, Amaya, Elijah, Michael, Jorge, Jadiah; brother Jenaro Nieves of Florida and many other family member and friends that were very close to his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mauricio and Pascuala; brothers Santurnino, Leo and Pablo.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 from 4-8 p.m., in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 E 31st St, South Lorain (440)277-8164, where closing prayers will be held at 8:45 followed by a Mass on Thursday, July 7, 2011, 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William A. Thaden, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
