Marie S. Dekalich, 92, Admiral King High School Cafeteria Manager

Marie S. Dekalich (nee Perkovich), passed away at her home on Wednesday July 6, 2011 at the age of 92 years.

Marie was born June 17, 1919 in Rankin, Pennsylvania to the late Steve Perkovich, Sr. and Anna (nee Lucon) Perkovich. Moving to Lorain as a child, she attended Lorain schools.

Mrs. Dekalich began working in the cafeteria of Admiral King High School on the day the doors were first opened there; she ultimately rose from a part-time employee to the manager of the cafeteria, a job that she took great pride in. Marie had many fond memories of working with the cafeteria, teaching, and support staff of AKHS.

She is survived by her daughters Delores (John) Brannan and Carol (Mark) Lukesic, granddaughters Kelly Brannan, Katie (Rob) Lukesic-Weinert, Lizabeth (Kyle) Lukesic-Mahnen, and Marcy Lukesic, grandson Christopher Brannan, great granddaughters Makinsie and Chloe, and sisters Frances (Fritz) Pavlovcic, and Anne Chum.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard J. Dekalich in 1998, and by brothers Rudolph Perkins and Steve Perkovich, Jr.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will begin there on Monday July 11th at 9:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Dekalich’s family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to Glennetta “Netta” McCoy who cared for Marie with the utmost kindness and respect. “Thank you for taking such wonderful care of “Grandma”. We could not have given her the quality of life she deserved without you.”
