Eileen McGee, 94, Founding Member of the Black River Historical Society
Eileen G. McGee, 94 (nee Gahagan) died Tuesday evening, July 12, 2011 at her home following a long illness.
Mrs. McGee was born on November 24, 1916 in Scott, OH to the late Lawrence and Goldie (nee Keltner) Gahagan.
She was a survivor of the infamous Lorain Tornado. Prior to WW II, she worked as a civilian employee in the Quartermaster Corp. in Mississippi. Following the war, she moved to the Lakewood and Bay Village area returning to Lorain in 1953 as a young widow.
Mrs. McGee was a member of the First Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church and was past president of the Women of The Church. She also was a past Worthy Advisor's Group from the Rainbow Girls, Lorain Chapter 8, past Grand Confidential Observer for the State of Ohio-Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star.
She served as past president of the Child Conservation League, past Republican Precinct Committee Person, treasurer for the Lorain Republican Central Committee, past member of the Lorain County Central Committee, founding member of the Black River Historical Society, a delegate to the Republican National Convention and past president of the Grand Cross of Color.
She is survived her husband of 55 years, Louis McGee, a daughter Patricia (Robert Schuman) Bajcer of Lorain, Gregory A. (Catherine Killam) of Toledo, grandchildren Robin (Troy) Archer of Salt Lake City, UT, Christine (William) Kimberly of Toledo, Catherine (Damien) Peterson of Washington, DC, Matt (fiance' Heidi) of Chicago, IL, Teah Schuman of Ravenna, Tanya Schuman of Mayfield Heights, great grandchildren Samantha of Toledo, Sarah of Salt Lake City, UT, and Anthony of Ravenna.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence A. Peterson, son Daniel B. McGee and a brother Wade K. Gahagan.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 11:00 am concluding with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain with Rev. Jimmy Madsen, pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
