Ludmila Kychun, 88, Award Winning Photographer

Photo of Ludmila Kychun Ludmila "Lucy" Kychun (née Ponomarenko) 88 of Lorain passed away Monday, July 25, 2011 in Avon Oaks Caring Community in Avon following a lengthy illness.

She was born January 8, 1923 in Kiev, Ukraine. She immigrated to Spring Valley, New York in 1949 then settled in Lorain in 1951. She graduated from high school in Kiev where she studied Library Sciences.

Mrs. Kychun worked for Community Action in Lorain as a senior citizen out reach clerk. She was also employed at Lorain Public Library and as a seamstress for May Co. and Louis Cohen.

Ludmila was a member of Saint Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Lorain where she was a member of the choir. She was an award winning photographer. Her photos of landscapes were featured in First Federal Bank calendars. She also enjoyed flowers, landscaping, crocheting, embroidering and sewing.

She will be deeply missed by her son Greg G. Kychun of Houston; her daughter Irene Shmerykowsky of Mastic, New York; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Yevstaphi and Oksana (née Moroz) Ponomarenko; brother Anatoli Ponomarenko and sister Helnia Kopilchnko.

Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain (440) 277-8164, where a Parastas service will be Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Her funeral service will in the funeral home Thursday at 10 a.m. Very Reverend Fr. Dennis Kristof pastor of Saint Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church will officiate.
