Vera Kurucz, 87, Active Holy Trinity Church Member

Photo of Vera Kurucz Vera L. Kurucz (nee Eichelberger), 87, of Rock Hill, South Carolina and formerly of Lorain and Amherst, died Saturday August 6, 2011 at her home.

She was born April 12, 1924 in Langdondale, Pennsylvania and had resided in Rock Hill for the past 6 years. Vera moved to Lorain in 1944 and to Amherst in 1993 and had previously lived in Robertsdale and Riddlesburg, PA.

Vera retired from Kmart in Amherst in 1986. Previously, she worked as a seamstress for S. Weitz & Co and as a sales associate at Hills Department Store and Sears, Roebuck & Co at the Midway Mall in Elyria.

Vera was a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary #46 Knights of St. John where she was their recording secretary. She was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women and served as recording secretary in its earlier years.

Vera was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where she was active in the building of the church center and a volunteer in the kitchen. She was a member and past vice-president of the church Altar & Rosary Society, member and past vice-president of the church Ladies Guild and a member of the Holy Trinity Seniors and Trinity Travelers. She served as both a lector and Eucharistic Minister there.

Vera volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital and Community Health Partners Hospital.

She enjoyed traveling belonging to the Paduan Travelers, Great Escapes Tours and SCOA of Amherst. She traveled to Jerusalem, Egypt, Italy, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, through the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, Bermuda and all over the United States.

She is survived by her children Jerome (Judith) Kurucz of Haines City, Florida and Susan Eich of Fort Mill, SC, grandchildren Kathleen Kurucz of Lorain, Linda (John) Repko of Wellington, Debbie Kurucz of Lorain, Tom (Natalie) Kurucz of Elyria, Brian Chulik of North Ridgeville, Cyndi (Chris) Jackson of Elyria, Keith (Lisa) Eich and Christopher Eich, all of Los Angeles, 6 great grandchildren and brothers Bill and Robert Eichelberger.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years John Kurucz in 1993, daughter Marsha Chulik in 1988, parents Stewart and Emma Eichelberger (nee Brenna), son-in-law Allan Eich, sisters Louise Williams and Edith Mort and brother Ralph Eichelberger.

The family will receive friends Thursday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Holy Trinity Altar & Rosary Society will recite the rosary Thursday at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:00 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
