Joan M. ''Nanny'' Hillenbrand, 74, Nurse's Aide
Joan M. Nanny Hillenbrand, age 74, of Cleveland, and formerly of Elyria, passed away Wednesday August 31st at the Malachi House in Cleveland following an extended illness.
She was born in San Diego, California on May 22, 1937 and had been a resident of Ohio since 1963.
For more than fifteen years, Mrs. Hillenbrand was employed as a nurse’s aid for the Manor Care Nursing Home of North Olmsted. She had formerly worked as a cook for the Elzona Restaurant in Westlake.
Nanny was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and was also a member of the Ladies Guild there. She was an accomplished cook and baker who enjoyed camping, dogs, cats, and birds. Additional interests included following the Cleveland Indians and most especially spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons Andrew J. Hillenbrand (Susan) of Wyandotte, Michigan, Donald J. Hillebrand, Jr. of Elyria, daughters Nellie A. Richards (Donald) of Bedford, Catherine M. Vasey (Michael Pilarowski) of Cleveland, and Mary F. Rossi (Nicholas) of Bay Village. She also leaves ten grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald J. Pappy Hillenbrand in 2002, by her mother Frances Kimmel-Bratkovich, and by maternal grandparents Andrew and Nellie Kimmel.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend Mr. John Slatcoff, Permanent Deacon representing St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
