Dimitri M. Kunch, 91, Social Worker
Dimitri M. Kunch, 91, of Lorain, died Saturday September 3, 2011 at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst.He was born October 9, 1919 in Akron and had resided in Lorain since he was a youth.
Dimitri graduated from Lorain High School and served in the US Army. He attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland where he earned a Masters Degree in Social Work.
Dimitri worked as a Social Worker for Lorain County Children's Services for 30 years retiring in 1984. Prior to that he was a teacher at Brookside High School where he taught history. He had also worked on the Lorain Coal Docks.
Dimitri was a craftsman who built his own home in Lorain. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Czarnecki Club where he played softball and bowled on the Czarnecki Club team.
He is survived by his children Vernal Garufi (Michael) of Elyria, Dominic Kunch (Traci Gannon) of of Cleveland, Nicholas Kunch of Lorain, and Virginia Kunch DVM (Chad Culley) of Anchorage, Alaska, granddaughter Christine Kunch, brother Paul Kunch of Lorain and sister Olga Kosmo of Fremont. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Kunch, and sisters Gia Soroka, and Elizabeth Kunch.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 12:30 pm at Elmwood Cemetery, 640 N. Ridge Rd, Lorain. Sister Pat Adams, chaplain of New Life Hospice of Lorain, will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by VFW #451 and American Legion #30, both of Lorain.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
