Carl R. Frey Jr., 77, Avid Hunter & Fisherman

Photo of Carl R. Frey Jr. Carl R. Frey, Jr., 77, of Elyria Township, died Tuesday September 20, 2011 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Lorain on October 23, 1933, and was a lifelong resident of the Elyria Township/Lorain areas.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany as a member of the 9th Infantry Division specializing in heavy weapons. He received the Good Conduct/Marksman Medal.

Carl was employed by American Crucible's Kenco Pump Division in Lorain, retiring in 1990.

Carl was a member of the Amherst Outdoor Life organization and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Phyllis Frey (nee Druckenmiller) of Elyria, daughter Victoria Dawson (Kevin) of Queen Creek, Arizona, granddaughter Dawn M. Vavla of Queen Creek, grandson Scott Gasser (fiancé Elena Garcia) of Elyria, great grandchildren Alisa Vavla and Alexis Valva of Queen Creek, brothers Mark A. Frey of Wakeman, Gregory P. Frey (Janine) of Lorain, sisters Beverly Wayda of Lorain, Joan Csutoras (Art) of Amherst, Merrie Guelker (Rodger) of Wellington, and Carol Caris (Frank) of Elyria Township.

He was preceded in death by his father Carl R. Frey, Sr. in 1988 and mother Mildred L. Frey (nee Hellinger) in 2003.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
