Robert E. Fry, 90, Carpenter
He was born April 25, 1921 in Lorain. He moved to Sheffield Village in 1956.
Mr. Fry retired from Lorain Products in 1986, where he worked as a carpenter for over 30 years.
He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Metal and the Good Conduct Metal.
He was a member of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, Lorain, and the former Saint Ladislaus Church of Lorain, where he served as an usher. He was named Holy Name Society Man of the Year. He volunteered at the American Cancer Society plant sale and in the carpentry shop at the Lorain Senior Center. He collected model trains and was a world traveler. He enjoyed gardening and was a Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years Irene B. Fry (Née Szakats); daughter Renee Fry of Sheffield Village; son Richard Fry of Amherst; grandchildren Nicole (Patrick) Mackin and Peter Fry; great-grandchildren Carol and Taylor Mackin and sister Betty Jean Smith of Fountain Valley, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Hannah (née Raphael) Fry; sisters Avis Andrews and Alberta Chafee and brother Harry Fry.
His family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain (440) 277-8164
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain, will conduct military honors.
