Robert E. Briggs, 68, Truck Driver
Robert E. Briggs, 68, of Sheffield Lake, died Thursday October 13, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.
He was born August 30, 1943 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio and had resided in Sheffield Lake since 1987. Robert grew up in Newark, Ohio and graduated from Newark High School in 1961.
Robert served with the US Air Force as an A2C from 1962-1966.
He worked as a truck driver for Teamsters Local #407 and retired in 1999 from APA Trucking in Richfield, Ohio.
Robert was a member of AMVETS Post #55 in Sheffield Lake. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years Kathy Briggs (nee Copeland), children Sharla Mick (Ken) of Lake Forest, Illinois, Jolene Brinkman (Dave) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Shad Briggs (Kelly) of Lorain, Jon Briggs of Lorain and Brittany Briggs (fiancé Cory O'Keefe) of Sheffield Lake and 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Evelyn Briggs (nee Wilkin).
The family will receive friends Monday 2-4, 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am. The Rev. Robert Smith, pastor of United Church of Christ in Sheffield Lake, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon where VFW Post #451 and American Legion Post #30, both of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
