Robert E. Brosky, 68, Retired President and Chief Executive Officer of First Federal Savings of Lorain

Photo of Robert E. Brosky Robert E. Brosky, retired President and Chief Executive Officer of First Federal Savings of Lorain embarked on his final sunset cruise in the early morning hours of October 20, 2011.

He was born in Lorain on May 30, 1943 and had been a long-time resident of both Lorain and Amherst prior to moving to Port Clinton.

Bob was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1961-B; he went on to attend Miami University in Oxford where he received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1965. He subsequently enrolled in the Ohio Northern University School of Law where he was conferred a Doctorate of Juris Prudence in 1968. Mr. Brosky was a member emeritus of Delta Theta Phi law fraternity.

In August of 1968 he became a full-time employee at First Federal Savings of Lorain and was elected to its Board of Directors in 1969. He was elected President of First Federal in 1984 and held that office until 2008. He was elected Chairman of the Board in 1999 and continued in that post until 2011. At the time of Bob’s appointment to the office of President, First Federal Savings held $ 135 million dollars in assets; under his leadership, the financial institution’s assets burgeoned to in excess of $ 404 million dollars.

Bob was extremely active in all levels of banking and finance where he served the Institute of Financial Education as its President from 1977 to 1979, and as its State Director from 1980 to 1984. He also had served as President of the Ohio Savings and Loan League, and was the first person appointed as Chairman of the Inaugural Ohio Bankers League. He sat on the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank. Additional accomplishments included serving as Chairman of the Northeast Ohio League of Savings Institutions, as a member of the Board of the American Community Bankers, as a Trustee for Ohio Bankers Benefits, and as a member of the Board of Pentegra Retirement Services. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation.

He was a member of the Lorain County Bar Association, the Polish Fisherman’s Club, and the Sandusky Yacht Club.

Mr. Brosky was a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain as well as Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton.

When free time was available, Bob enjoyed golf and pleasure boating; other interests included travel and taking oceanic cruises.

Survivors include his wife Janet M. Brosky (nee Jones), sons Michael ( Heidi), Kevin (Michele), and Keith (Brandi), along with his daughter Beth Ellis (Joe). He also leaves 12 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and his sister Eileen Pointer (Pete).

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Edward A. and Helen M. (nee Nocleg) Brosky.

Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue , Lorain . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity BVM Catholic Church, (1454 Lexington Avenue – Lorain ). Please meet at the church. Father Robert M. Glepko, Pastor of the parish will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family strongly encourages memorial contributions to either Nativity BVM Catholic Church in Lorain , Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton, or to the North Coast Cancer Center.
