William W. Dieterich, 91, Machinist
William W. Dieterich, 91, of Lorain, died Friday October 21, 2011 at St. Anthony Inpatient Hospice in Crown Point, Indiana.
He was born May 16, 1920 in Lorain and had resided in Lorain most of his life. He had recently moved to Crown Point, Indiana to live with his daughter Elayne.
William was a graduate of Lorain High School and then served with the US Army Combat Engineers during WWII in North Africa, Italy, the D-Day Invasion and Belgium.
He worked at American Crucible in Lorain for 42 years as a machinist and manager. He was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Lorain and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and woodworking.
He is survived by his children Kathy Dieterich of Hygiene, Colorado, Jayne Dieterich of Denver, Colorado, Elayne (James) Popovich of Crown Point, Indiana, William Dieterich of Golden, Colorado, John Dieterich of Longmont, Colorado and Eric (Denise) Dieterich of Ashville, Ohio, 13 grandchildren: Adam, Jessica, Zachary, Angela, Gabrielle, Natalie, Anthony, Noah, Jake, Jillian, Justin, Laura and Emily and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Emma Dieterich (nee Simonic), parents William J. and Laura E. Dieterich (nee Craig), brother Gerald Dieterich and half-siblings Dave Thomas and Jean (Thomas) Tomson.
The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:00 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the VFW Post #451 and American Legion #30, both of Lorain , will conduct military honors.
