Mary V. Carek, 97, Ardent Bowler
Mary V. Carek (nee Ruba), age 97, of Avon Lake, passed away on Monday November 7th, 2011, She was born in Lorain on December 8, 1913 and had been a resident of Avon Lake since 1992.Mrs. Carek was formerly employed as a PBX operator for the Ford Motor Company; she retired in 1978 following 19 years of service with the automaker.
Mary was an ardent bowler who participated in league competition at the Saxon Lanes, Shoreway Lanes, and Rebman’s Recreation. Her accomplishments within the sport led to her ultimate induction into the Lorain Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Jo (Raymond) Brown of Avon Lake, sons Ronald of Avon Lake and Kenneth of Clermont, Florida, along with 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1969, by her parents John and Elizabeth (nee Danko) Ruba, and by sisters Betty Fuhrman and Helen Halzauer.
Graveside services will be Wednesday November 9th at 2:30 p.m. in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, 44805 North Ridge Rd. in Amherst Township. Reverend Bob Daugherty will officiate.
