Michael L. ''Grandpa'' Yuhas, 66, Police Officer

Photo of Michael L. ''Grandpa'' Yuhas Michael L. "Grandpa" Yuhas, 66, of Lorain, died Wednesday November 9, 2011 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain from complications of a heart attack he suffered on October 2nd.

He was born October 1, 1945 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Michael was a graduate of Admiral King High School in Lorain. He served with the US Marine Corps as a military policeman during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, Vietnam Campaign and Good Conduct Medal.

Michael worked as a Police Officer for the city of Lorain before retiring.

He enjoyed working with children and was involved with Operation Open Heart for 42 years, worked with Lorain County Children's Services and volunteered at Stevan Dohanos Elementary School in Lorain as a kindergarten aide. Mike was also involved with the Impressions Thanksgiving food drive. He enjoyed his computer.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Linda, sons Christopher (Pam) Yuhas and David Yuhas, grandsons Brandon and Logan Yuhas and brother David Yuhas of Ft Wayne, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Margaret Yuhas (nee Unger).

The family will receive friends Saturday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Cremation will follow. Private family funeral services will be held at a later date.
