Donald E. ''Doc'' Bardar, 78, Enjoyed Hunting & Fishing

Donald E. "Doc" Bardar, 78, of Wakeman, died Saturday December 10, 2011 in the emergency room at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain after a sudden illness.

He was born February 11, 1933 in Lorain and had resided at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Lorain for the last six months. Prior to that, he had lived in Wakeman since 1978 moving from Lorain.

Doc graduated from St. Mary High School in Lorain in 1951 and then served with the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Midway.

He worked as a Pipefitter for Local #42 Plumbers & Steamfitters Union in Norwalk before retiring.

Doc was a member of the former Ss Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Lorain. He attended the Church of St. Peter in Lorain and St. Mary Catholic Church in Wakeman.

Doc was a World War II history buff and enjoyed studying the aviation of planes. As a youth, he built many model airplanes.

He was a 21 year member of the American Legion Post in Wellington and a member of the Bronson Conservation Club in Wakeman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his brother John Bardar (Pat) of Elyria Township, sister-in-law Rose Bardar of Amherst, 2 nieces, 3 nephews, 1 great niece, 3 great nephews and his dog Vinny. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Donna M. Bardar (nee Powers) on May 23, 2011, parents John and Mary Bardar (nee Golias) and brother Leroy Bardar.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the VFW Post #451 and American Legion Post #30, both of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
