Donald P. Uehlein, 88, Enjoyed Golf & Bowling

Photo of Donald P. Uehlein Donald P. Uehlein, 88, of Lorain, died Sunday December 11, 2011 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

He was born May 9, 1923 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Don was a graduate of Lorain High School with the class on 1941B. After graduation, he worked at American Shipbuilding in Lorain and then joined the US Army in 1943 serving during World War II. He saw action in Rome-Arno and the Northern Apennines in Italy and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and American Campaign Medal.

Don worked at US Steel in Lorain as an Electrical Motor Inspector retiring after 39 years.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher during mass and was a member of the Holy Name Society.

Don served on the board of LorMet Community Federal Credit Union for over 20 years where he was past president and board member emeritus. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Sheffield Lions Club, member of Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 in Lorain and Senior Fellowship. He enjoyed golf and bowling in various leagues and playing cards.

He is survived by his children Terri George (George) of Lorain, Scott Uehlein (Alice) of Avon Lake and Patrick Uehlein (Teri) of Powell, grandchildren Sara Seybold, Christopher George, Lindsey Uehlein, Christina Uehlein, Cory Uehlein, Grant Uehlein and Sam Uehlein and great grandchildren Annabelle Seybold, Ryan George, Amelia Seybold and Rachael George.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jane Uehlein (nee Giacobbe) in 2009, his parents and 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 3-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua of Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Richard Hudak, pastor, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
