Dwight X. Francis, 83, of Lorain, died Sunday December 11, 2011 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.
He was born September 1, 1928 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Dwight worked at US Steel in Lorain as a Heater in the Rolling Mills for 42 years retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Lorain, St. Peter Seniors, Lorain Community Seniors, Golden Agers and USWA Local #1104.
Dwight enjoyed reading, especially books on automobiles and became very knowledgeable about older model and current vehicles. He enjoyed walking and swimming.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years Therese Dlugosz-Francis (nee Brezinski), son Ralph Francis of the Philippine Islands, stepchildren Robert Dlugosz (Robette) of Lorain, Thomas Douglas (Tracy) of Aurora, Donald Dlugosz (Karen) of Highland Heights and Barbara Mastroianni (Roger) of Lyndhurst, 11 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and brother Philip Francis of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Josephine Francis (nee Siejack) in 1980, stepson Robert Francis in 1973, parents Edgar and Iris Francis (nee Redman) and sister Priscilla Rogala.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 5-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Additional visitation will be held Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of the funeral mass at 10:00 am at the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. (PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH) The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
