James R. Carrier, 64, Enjoyed Following the Browns & Indians

James R. Carrier, age 64, of Avon Lake, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday December 15th.

Jim was born in Lorain on July 31, 1947 and had been a resident of Avon Lake for the past 35 years. He was a 1965 graduate of Admiral King High School.

Following his graduation, Mr. Carrier enlisted in the United States Air Force where he fulfilled duty assignments in Vietnam as a Sergeant attached to the 40th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and also held a Small Arms Expert Marksman rating. Jim was a life member of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the VFW and was also a member of Italian-American Veterans Post # 1 both of Lorain.

He was employed as a control room operator in the BOP Shop at U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain Works for 39 years; he retired in 2009.

In his free time Mr. Carrier enjoyed following the Cleveland Browns and Indians and also enjoyed maintaining his vintage Chevrolet Camaro.

Survivors include his sisters Mary Jane (Robert) Broglio of Lorain and Paulette (Ed) Schneider of Euclid, along with nieces Kristie and Amy Broglio. He was preceded in death by his parents James F. and Jennie M. (nee Amato) Carrier.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel; a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue with the Reverend Eric S. Orzech, Parochial Vicar of the parish officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by I.A.V. Post # 1.
