Roger F. Slutzker, 63, Kind and Gentle man, husband and businessman

Roger F. Slutzker, 63, of Lorain passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Anchor Lodge following a long illness.

Roger was born in Lorain on January 13, 1948, the son of the late Milton and Leona (nee Wittow) Slutzker. He was a graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1966. He attended Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana before transferring to Kent State University where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education.

He was a member of Agudath B'nai Israel Synagogue in Lorain and served as secretary of the Board of Trustees for many years. He, along with his wife Jane, chaired Project Isaiah, an ongoing food distribution program in conjunction with the Presbyterian-Lutheran Co-op. He was also an associate member of Hadassah.

Roger taught Marketing Management/Distributive Education at Southview High School for a year. From 1964-1974, he worked with his father at their family owned and operated restaurant, Mr. "S" on Broadway Ave. In 1974, the family opened a Big Red Quickprint Center on Broadway and in 1982 changed the name of the business to Slutzker's Quickprint Center. He retired in 2002 after 28 years in the printing business.

Roger was a kind and gentle man, husband and businessman.

He loved to travel with his wife on cruises and bus tours. He liked to read and research information on traveling, loved attending live theater preformances and had an interest in cars, both old and new.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jane (nee Beard) Slutzker, a sister Rena Slutzker of Denver, CO, brother-in-law Mark Beard and fiancee Debby Giannetta, of Ohio, nieces Rachel Beard of Ohio, Emily Beard of California, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 1:00 pm in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th, Lorain with Cantor David Wolinsky, officating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, Sheffield Township. Shiva will be observed at the Slutzker home on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.
