Thomas J. Doyle, 87, Devoted U.S. Veteran and Volunteer
Thomas J. Doyle, 87, died on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home following a short illness.
Thomas was born in Alicia, Pa. on December 27, 1923, the son of the late Thomas A. and Jeannette (nee Donohue). He was a resident of Lorain for the past 59 years. He served in the U.S. Army, 8th Armored Division, during WW II obtaining the rank of staff sergeant. Thomas was a active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, volunteering for many years. He was a former member of the Holy Name Society. He also volunteered at Mercy Regional Medical Center for more than 12 years.
He was a retired lab technologist at former B.F. Goodrich Technical Center in Avon Lake. He retired in the early 1980's following 32 years service. He loved golfing. He was especially known for his generosity in helping others.
Thomas is survived by daughters, Gayle F. (Gary) Stack, of Vermilion, Gretchen (Claude) Sparks, Wentzville, MO, Gregory (Sally) Doyle of Portland, OR, grandchildren Amanda Doyle, Eric Stack, Michael Sparks, Ali Stack, Emily Sparks, Matt Sparks, two great grandchildren Jacob and Patrick, a sister Eileen Hroblak of Grindstone, Pa.,
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose M. (nee Cavaretti) Doyle in April 16, 1998, son John Gary Doyle in Dec. 9, 2004, sister Rita McCudden and brother James Doyle.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at 11:00 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain with Father Richard Hudak, as celebrant. A Celebration of his life will continue in the Social Hall following the Mass. Burial will be private in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township.
The Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the St. Anthony's Adoration Chapel, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052 in his memory.
