William H. Farley, 90, Purple Heart and Bronze Star U.S. Army Captain dies at age 90
William H. Farley, age 90, a long time resident of Avon Lake died December 21, 2011 at Caldwell House in Troy, Ohio following an extended illness.Mr. Farley earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star while serving his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. He met his wife Jean while she served in the Red Cross. They were married for 47 years. She preceded him in death in 1994.
Mr. Farley retired from the Lorain Morning Journal in 1986 as the Advertising Manager. He was a member of the Lorain Community College Choir and Mighty Goliath Players. He was an active member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ choir for 55 years. He enjoyed singing, playing golf, traveling and working in his yard.
He is survived by sons Douglas M. of Malvern Ohio, David W. (Janis) of Troy, Ohio and three grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM Saturday, January 7th, 2012 at Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd, Avon Lake, OH 44012.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Avon Lake United Church of Christ choir.
