Michael J. Savulak, Jr., 91, Savulak Rambler Owner

Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on August 15th, 1920, Mike was a 1st generation American born to parents who migrated from Eastern Europe.

He was a 1938 graduate of Lorain High School and went on to attend Miami University of Ohio. He left college in July of 1942 to join the United States Marine Corps. Following a brief stay at Parris Island, South Carolina where he served as a Drill Instructor, he was deployed to Iwo Jima in the Pacific Theater. It was there that Corporal Savulak hit the beaches with his fellow troops of the 3rd Marine Division and was subsequently wounded in the violent battle that ensued. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Upon returning stateside, Mike began to sell “iron sleds” for the next sixty years of his life. He was the owner of Savulak Rambler in Amherst and earned trips to Europe and South America for sales excellence. He also enjoyed the privilege of selling the very first One Tank Trip car. Mike, Jr. went on to own Savulak Motors also in Amherst and later partnered with Al Ford Sales in Lorain. Selling cars was his life and he held the honor of selling the most number of cars in Lorain County for three consecutive years. In 2004 at the age of 84 he decided that his sales days were over and he stepped into retirement.

Mike, Jr. attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst and was a life member of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a life member of both Elmer Johnson Post # 118 of the American Legion as well as Amherst V.F.W. Post # 1662. In addition, he was a member of the Marine Corps League.

Mr. Savulak is survived by his children Michael of Catawba Island, Ohio, Patti Denewith of Palm Harbor, Florida, Thomas (Denise) and Mark (Louisa) both of Port Orange, Florida, and Leanne Savulak residing in Dunedin, Florida. He also leaves granddaughters Briana and Bianca Savulak as well as his sister Helen Hacnik of Gulf Port, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Mary Savulak, by his daughter-in-law Paula Kerecz-Savulak in 2006, and by grandchildren Brandon and Faith Savulak.

Visitation will be Tuesday January 3rd from, 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday January 4th at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend Michael J. Denk, M.Div. Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
