Virginia Kosmo, 90, Senior Auditor Supervisor For The Internal Revenue Service
Virginia Kosmo, age 90, of Lorain, passed away at Kingston of Vermilion on January 19th following an extended illness.
Virginia was born in Bradensville , Pennsylvania on April 22, 1921 to the late Michael and Anna (nee Jancso) Kosmo. At the age of four, she and her family moved to Lorain.
Miss Kosmo graduated from Lorain High School as the Treasurer of the Class of 1939-A. A member of the National Honor Society, she was extremely active in a multitude of activities there including clubs and intramurals. She also served as a school aid and assisted in a variety of school publications. She remained active following commencement by coordinating, organizing, and record-keeping for class reunions.
Following her graduation, Virginia first worked as a teller at Lorain National Bank and later joined the Internal Revenue Service. Following the completion of a host of college accounting courses, and continuing education seminars, she retired as a Senior Auditor Supervisor.
She was a member and former officer of the Secretary’s Club, and was also a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Virginia was an active parishioner of the Church of St. Peter in Lorain and volunteered on many church projects and fund-raisers. She also served as Secretary at St. Peter Parish School for a number of years.
Her hobbies included reading, as well as traveling within the continental Unites States and Hawaii. She had also experiences travel to both Spain and North Africa.
Miss Kosmo was a loving caregiver to her mother, Anna, for many years until she passed away in Virginia ’s arms at the age of 102.
Survivors include her brother Robert Kosmo of Lorain , her niece and guardian Mary Joy Gula also of Lorain , along with a host of other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters Mary Gula, Helen Mortensen, and Ann Nickel, and by brothers Michael in infancy, and George, John, and Edward.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain . Funeral services will be Monday beginning with closing prayers in the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in The Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue . The Reverend Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor of St. Peter Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain .
