Mohammed A. Amiri M.D., 80, Devoted Doctor
Mohammed A. Amiri M.D., 80, of Lorain, Ohio passed away on Saturday,February 4, 2012 from complications of a recent heart attack.
Dr. Amiri was born in Isfahan, Iran in 1932 to Ahmad and Sekineh Amiri. He left Iran after high school to attend the University of Geneva, Geneva
Switzerland, where he graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree. He
subsequently entered medical school at the University of Geneva's College of
Medicine and earned his medical degree in 1957.
Dr. Amiri moved to the United States after accepting a medical internship
at Uniontown Hospital in Uniontown, PA, where he met and married his wife
of 52 years, Carrie B. Amiri (nee Cunningham). Dr. Amiri was accepted to
the Residency program in Internal Medicine & Hematology at the Cleveland
Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, where he trained for 6 years. In 1966, he moved to Lorain, Ohio to begin private practice in Internal Medicine. He was
affiliated with St. Joseph's Hospital and Lorain Community Hospital (Mercy).
In addition to private practice, Dr. Amiri served as the Lorain City Health
Commissioner for ten years. He proudly became a US citizen while living in
Lorain. Dr. Amiri was board-certified in Internal Medicine. He retired from
practicing medicine in 2000.
He will be remembered by his friends and family as a dedicated physician,
a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and a true gentleman. His
life work and passion revolved around medicine, his patients, and his
family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ahmad and Sekineh Amiri, and his
brother, Ali Mohammad Amiri of Los Angeles, CA.
The family of Dr. Amiri would like to extend their warm heartfelt thanks
to the nurses and physicians at New Life Hospice for their tender care. In
addition, the physicians and staff at Mercy Hospital and Cleveland Clinic
provided excellent medical care and support to the family. A special thanks
to niece Parisa Amiri Salehi, nephew Mohammad Reza Amiri, and cousin
Hamid Amiri of California, who traveled across the country to offer support
and care during the last days of Dr. Amiri's life.
Dr. Amiri is survived by his wife Carrie B. Amiri and four children; Dr.
Tamela Amiri (Richard Rosenfeld) of Stamford, CT, Ariane Amiri-Morris
(Dan Morris) of Charleston, SC, Matthew Amiri (Lisa) of Rocky River and
Roxanne Jaber (Dr. Wael Jaber) of Shaker Heights, five grandchildren; Hope
Rosenfeld, Thomas Rosenfeld, Luke Amiri Morris, Lara Jaber and Maya Jaber
and many beloved sisters and brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
Friends and family may offer condolences to the family on Tuesday,
February 7, 2012 between 5-8 pm at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for
Funeral, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. As well, friends and family are
invited to attend a funeral services honoring Dr. Amiri at the funeral home at11:00 am on Wednesday February 8, 2012. The service will be presided over byReverend Doctor Brian Wilbert of Christ Episcopal Church in Oberlin.
Burial will be private.
