Sylvia M. "Sally" Sestili (nee Bischoff), 95, Former Owner/Operator of Darla's Style Salon

Photo of Sylvia M. Sylvia M. "Sally" Sestili (nee Bischoff), 95, of Amherst, died Friday February 24, 2012 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

She was born April 3, 1916 in Amherst and had been a lifelong Amherst/Lorain area resident.

Sally was a Hairdresser and Owner/Operator of Darla's Style Salon in Lorain. During the 1960's, her salon was the largest in the state of Ohio. Prior to that, she owned and operated the Coffee Shop on Broadway Avenue in Lorain.

Sally was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, the Lorain Business Women's Club, a member and past president of AMVETS Post #47 Ladies Auxiliary in Lorain and a past member of the Clearview PTA and Mother's Club.

She enjoyed crocheting and for many years made hats for St. Joseph Church to provide to the needy in the area. She was an avid scrabble player who almost always was victorious at the game. Even at her age, she was an avid Facebook user and enjoyed using her I Pad and reading. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Darla M. Urbanek (Thom) of Lorain and Walter R. Sestili (Betty) of Hudson, grandchildren Wendy Chasar (Tim) of Kent, Aaron Urbanek (Emily) of Charlotte, NC, Dana Gornall (Larry) of Lorain and Matthew Urbanek (Malory) of Lorain, great grandchildren Jeremy Gornall, Hallie Gornall, Victoria Rapchak, Mina Urbanek, Penny Urbanek and triplets Antonia, Brandon and Celeste Chasar and foster grandchildren Melissa Chorba (Matthew) of Sandusky, Seth Schilling of Lorain and Nicole Schilling of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene A. Sestili on December 10, 2002, parents Gus and Marie Bischoff (nee Jacobs), sister Dorothy Goohs and brother Henry Leo Bischoff.

The family will receive friends Monday 2-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am. The Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
