Clarence G. ''Larry'' Jurczyk, 77, Stained Glass Artisan and U.S. Steel Retiree

Photo of Clarence G. ''Larry'' Jurczyk Clarence G. “Larry” Jurczyk, age 77, of Amherst, passed away at his residence on the evening of Saturday, February 25th, 2012 following an illness of seven months. Larry was born in Lorain, Ohio on April 23, 1934 and had been a resident of Amherst since 1976.

A graduate of St. Bonaventure High School in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, Mr. Jurczyk was a veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Specialist 4 attached to the16th Engineer’s Battalion.

He was employed as a Metallurgical Analyst and subsequently as a Parts Manager at United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works; he retired in 1983 following a career that spanned 28 years with the steel producer.

Larry was a long-time parishioner of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain. He was a skilled artisan of stained glass who previously enjoyed league bowling with the St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife of 51 � years Gertrude (nee Jara), by his son Tim (Michelle) residing in Van Wert, Ohio, and by daughters Annie Jurczyk (John Jansen) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bonnie (Tim) Secrist of Lexington, Ohio, and Chris (Eric) Brugler of Warren, Ohio. Larry also leaves 13 beautiful grandchildren and his brother Eugene Jursek, M.D. (Evelyn) residing in Stow, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Sophia (nee Niznik) Jurczyk, and by his sister Genevieve Given.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel; a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, 333 South Lake Street in South Amherst. The Reverend Gerald J. Keller, Pastor Emeritus of St. Adalbert Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family encourages contributions in Larry’s memory to the Amherst Public Library, 221 Spring Street, Amherst, Ohio 44001.
