Betty Jean Manichl (nee Pontius), Accomplished & Talented Artist

Photo of Betty Jean Manichl (nee Pontius) Betty Jean (nee Pontius) Manichl died March 5, 2012 from a lengthy illness.

She was born August 22, 1930 in Lorain, where she resided until 1994 then moved to Sheffield Lake.

Betty graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1948. She attended Cleveland Art Institute and LCCC pursuing studies in art.

She was a member of the Lorain Women's Club, Art League of Lorain County, Ohio Watercolor Society, Bay Crafters and Ohio Art League. She was a member of the Lake Shore United Methodist Church in Avon.

Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Arthur Louis Manichl, daughters Becky (Mark) Smith of Lorain, Lynn Ann (Doug) Price of Worthington, grandchildren Tyler Smith, Casey Smith and Ian Price, and her sister Susanne L. Falk of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alton E. and Lucille (nee
Rathburn) Pontius.

Betty enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She had a deep love for her pets especially her Pudgie. She was a wonderful cook and held many family gatherings. An accomplished and talented artist, with specialities in drawing, painting, and pottery: several of her works are currently being shown at Tru North in Sheffield Lake and at the Fave in Oberlin. She also enjoyed bowling and traveling.

A Celebration of her Life will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at noon in the Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 33119 Electric Boulevard, Avon Lake, with Rev. Nancy Manner, pastor, officiating. A luncheon will follow to continue the celebration of her life with all who loved and knew her.

The family suggest that memorial contributions be made in her memory to
either the Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, 8303 Murray
Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035 or the Lorain Arts Council, 737 Broadway
Ave., Lorain, OH 44052.
