Frank L. Kalo, 89, Owner and Operator of Kalo Flower Shop in Lorain

He was born August 31, 1922 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Clearview High School in 1940. Frank owned and operated Kalo Flower Shop in Lorain for over 60 years.
He attended Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Elyria Township. He was member of Saint Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain until it was closed 2009. He was also a member of the Hungarian Council, American Hungarian Citizens Club, Baráti Kӧr (Hungarian Friends Society), Hungarian Reformed Church Men’s Brotherhood all of Lorain and AMVETS Post 22 of Vermilion. Frank was very generous to his customers and was a generous supporter of Hungarian churches and organizations.
He will be dearly missed by his sisters Irene Retay of Amherst, Helen Murray of Lorain and Theresa (Lewis) Makay of Vermilion; sister-in-laws Mary Gallis of North Ridgeville, Vivian Kalo of Elyria and Ruth Kalo of Lorain; He was a Godfather and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Theresa (Née Szerecsen) Kalo-Vass; step father Frank Vass; brothers Charles Kalo, Joseph Kalo and Ernest Kalo in June of last year; nephew Lewis Kalo; niece Gerry Nielsen and grandnephew Jason Kalo.
His family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 6 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain (440) 277-8164. Where Sunday evening at 5:30 Rev. Peter Toth of Hungarian Reformed Church, Lorain will lead a Hungarian prayer service. Closing prayers will be Monday at 9:00 then Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township, Ohio. Rev. Father James R. Ols, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
