Jesse A. Palagyi, 90, US Coast Guard during World War II

Photo of Jesse A.  Palagyi Jesse A. Palagyi, 90, of Lorain, died Wednesday March 28, 2012 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.

He was born August 21, 1921 in Lorain and lived in New Orleans, Louisiana for 64 years moving back to Ohio in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina decimated the area.

Jesse was a graduate of Lorain High School and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he earned a degree in education.

Jesse served with the US Coast Guard as a Seaman First Class during World War II in the South Pacific off Australia.

He worked as a Science Teacher at St. Bernard Parish in New Orleans and coached junior high football there.

As a youth, Jesse played baseball and enjoyed bowling and golf. While living in Lorain, he was a member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church.

He is survived by his sister Marianne Ehasz (Elmer) of Lorain, sister-in-law Marie Palagyi of Arcadia, California, 5 nephews, 3 nieces and 20 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Palagyi (nee Pelyhes), sister Margaret Palagyi and brothers John and William Palagyi.

Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, will announce arrangements.
