Carole A. Myers (nee Porostovsky), 77, Dedicated Wife and Mother

Photo of Carole A.  Myers (nee Porostovsky) Carole A. Myers, (nee Porostovsky), age 77 of Lorain, passed away surrounded by her family at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria on Thursday March 29th, 2012 following a sudden illness.

Carole was born on August 1, 1934 in Lorain where she resided her entire life; she was a 1952 graduate of Lorain High School and subsequently received certification in both Secretarial and Business Studies from the Lorain Business School.

Carole was a dedicated wife and mother to her late husband Gerald D. Myers along with her five children. She was primarily a homemaker who took great pride in being a stay-at-home mother; she was committed to raising her children with a strong sense of family values and a firm foundation and belief in God. Carole volunteered countless hours at St. Vincent de Paul Parochial School, where her children were students, assisting in the roles of school nurse, librarian, and whatever other services were needed. As her family grew older she worked in a part-time capacity at Deluca’s Place in the Park as well as Bevan’s Dog Food Store.

Mrs. Myers enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and was famous for her nut rolls, homemade soups and pies, along with other ethnic specialties including chicken paprikash, pierogies, and stuffed cabbage rolls. Carole also enjoyed playing bingo, card games, and Yatzee with her family and friends; in addition, she participated in variety of bowling leagues and tournaments with her husband and children. Other interests included reading and watching television game shows.

She is survived by her daughter Arleen Price (Fred) of Lorain, son Keith Myers (Patty) of Amherst, daughter Denise Rial (Bob) of Franklin, Pennsylvania, son Dale Myers of Lorain, and daughter Janice Poplar of Westlake. She also leaves nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and her sister Shirley Speckhart of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Gerald D. Myers, by her parents Michael and Mary (nee Zakutny) Porostovsky, by her brothers Michael Porostovsky, George Porostovsky, Robert Porostovsky, Richard Porostovsky, and Lester Porter, as well as her sisters Lillian Archambeau, Ethel Nocjar, Marion Susanjar, and Virginia Myers.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend John C. Retar, Pastor of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
