John Muzick, 93, M & M Improvement Co. Founder

Photo of John Muzick John Muzick, age 93, of Elyria, passed away Thursday April 5, 2012 at EMH Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

John was born in Vintondale, Pennsylvania on February 3, 1919 and moved to Lorain County in 1940; he had been a resident of Elyria for the past 62 years.

Mr. Muzick was a World War II veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Staff Sergeant attached to the 735th Military Police Battalion; he was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

In 1959 John founded the M & M Improvement Company, Inc. and remained active in the operation of the business until the time of his passing.

He was a long-time parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain where he formerly served as both an usher and a greeter.

In his free time John enjoyed fishing, listening to polka music, and singing. He also received great enjoyment conversing with people and attending local festivals.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Phyllis (nee Januszewski), by sons John P. Muzick and Felix E. Muzick both of Elyria, by daughters Jayne (Stu) Zehngut of Woodland Hills, California, Anna Marie (Marty) O’Brien of Sylvania, and Connie (Rob) Palazzolo residing in Santa Clarita, California. He also leaves 5 grandsons.

John was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna (nee Ligus) Muzick, by his sister Anna Shulik, and by brothers Andy, Peter, Steve, Michael, and George.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave. Lorain, where a Parastas service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. The Divine Liturgy will be conducted in St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 West 40th Street in Lorain at 10:00 a.m. on Monday April 9th. (Please go directly to the church). The Very Reverend Nicholas A. Rachford, J.C.L. will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
