Eva Jankowski (nee Yavornitzky), 93, Excellent Seamstress, Cook & Baker

Photo of Eva Jankowski (nee Yavornitzky) Eva Jankowski (nee Yavornitzky), 93, of Elyria Township, died Saturday April 14, 2012 at Rae-Ann Nursing Home in Westlake.

She was born October 10, 1918 in Cleveland and was raised in Lorain. She married Henry Jankowski on September 20, 1945 and they built their home in Elyria Township where she lived for over 50 years.

Eva attended Lorain High School. During World War II, she was employed by the Weitz Company as a Seamstress making overcoats for the US Army.

Eva was a charter member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and was a past member of the church Altar & Rosary Society.

She was an excellent seamstress, cook and baker. She loved music and singing and she and her late husband Hank were excellent dancers. The biggest joy in her life was her family.

While living at St. Mary of the Woods in Avon, she enjoyed crafts, art, bingo and all activities. She was a member of the SMW noodle hockey team and played many games there against hockey players from the Lake Erie Monsters.

She is survived by her children Alan Jankowski (Mary) of Vermilion, Carol Peto (Ernie) of Olmsted Falls and Deacon Donald Jankowski (Pat) of Avon, grandchildren Beth, Dawne, Amy, David, Christine, Eric and Matthew, four step-grandchildren and their families, 16 great grandchildren, sister Anne Yavornitzky of Middleburg Heights and brother Joe Yavornitzky of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 2001, son David in 1953, parents Harry and Mary Yavornitzky, brothers Michael, Andrew, John, William and Harry Yavornitzky and sister Olga.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4, 6-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd, Elyria Twp. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
