Natalia Szuja (nee Chechetin), 83, Enjoyed Hobbies & Spending Time With Family

Photo of Natalia Szuja (nee Chechetin) Natalia Szuja,(nee Chechetin) 83 of Lorain passed away to her eternal rest on Saturday, May 19, 2012 in her sons home in Texas.

Natalia was born August 8, 1928 in Russia, the district of Kubanski, region of Ust Labinsk, oblast of Severo Kavkazsci Krai, village of Kirpilskaya.

She immigrated to Lorain from Germany after World War II as a displaced person in 1950. Natalia became a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church and was an active member of the Ukrainian community. She worked for and retired from Lorain Products. After retirement, Natalia found great enjoyment in her hobbies of gardening, cooking and spending time with her entire family, which was her life.

Loving mother of Walter (Marie) Szuja of Spring, TX; Vera (Dennis) Proy, Lorain and Bella (Michael) Fallner of Macedonia, grandchildren; Jerrel (Tina) Proy, Oberlin, Sgt. Kristie Proy, U. S. Army, Columbus, IN., Theresa Webb and Jennifer Stewart, Lorain, Natasha, Austin and Justin all of Spring, twelve great-grandchildren; and family in the Kuban region of Russia.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Luba Rancher; parents Sergey Radionovich and Evdokia Titovna Chechetin; brother and sister-in-law Petia and Klava , grandson Andrew and Jerry Harshberger.

Her family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain (440) 277-8164, with Panahyda Friday evening at 7 p.m. Closing prayers will be Saturday at 9:30 in the funeral home then Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3038 Charleston Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44055. The Very Rev. Cannon, Steven M. Paliwoda, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.

Her family suggests memorial contributions may be made to her church. Per Ukrainian tradition, a commemorative service will be held 40 days after Natalia’s passing.
