Mary Agnes Teleha (nee McPhillips), 82, Accomplished Pianist & Organist

Photo of Mary Agnes  Teleha (nee McPhillips) Mary Agnes Teleha, (nee McPhillips), age 82, of Lorain, passed away Monday May 21st, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mrs. Teleha was born in Lorain on March 3, 1930 and was a 1948 graduate of Lorain St. Mary High School; while a student there she was a member of the Sparky Club which enabled her to develop and maintain friendships with fellow club members which have lasted more than a half century.

Mary was a parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish and had been extremely active with its predecessor, St. John Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society as well as the Mother’s Club.

An accomplished pianist and organist, Mrs. Teleha served as the organist for St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township for 26 years.

She was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians who enjoyed music, playing cards, and flower gardening with a special focus on roses. A devotee of picnics, Mary received the most enjoyment from spending time with her family and sharing her gift of music with them.

Survivors include her daughters Mary “Marti” Parks of Oberlin, Catherine (Chris) Thomas, Agnes (Art) Reyes, Christine Teleha, and Ellen (Henry) Perez all of Lorain, Kelly Teleha of Elyria, and Wendy (Bob) Zeiter of Findlay, sons Stephan J. Teleha of Vermilion and David J. (Valerie) Teleha of Wakeman, along with Terrence J. (Barbara) Teleha of Oberlin. She also leaves 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and sisters Florence “Toni” Tomasic of Dearborn, Michigan and Jean “Jon” Hite of New London.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stephan, by her parents William and Ruby (nee Frank) McPhillips, by her son-in-law Reuben Parks, by her brother William, and by sisters Catherine O’Rourke, Josephine “Jo” Larkin, and Margaret “Mag” Gallagher.

Visitation will be Friday May 25th from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel; a Catholic Burial Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Frances Xavier Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive in Lorain with the Reverend John C. Retar, Pastor of the parish officiating. Private burial will take place in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
