Richard Salasovich, 79, Former Logistician for the US Navy
Richard was born on July 26, 1932, in Lorain, Ohio, a son of Peter and Mary (nee Demchik) Salasovich. He served as a logistician in the Navy for four years at Putuxent River, Maryland. He worked for 50 continuous years at US Steel in a variety of positions in different divisions.
Richard enjoyed spending time with his extended family, especially his nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. He was particularly fond of people, sunshine, ice cream, puzzles, newspapers and choral music.
He was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He served the Church in many capacities.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Alice (nee Januszeski) and his children, daughters Cynthia L. (L. McKinney) of North Hills, California and Sandra M. (Rick) Ilcisko of Amherst; and sons Richard M. (Brooke) of Alexandria, Virginia, Joseph P. (Karen Sarkis) of Arlington, Virginia, and James A. of Boulder, Colorado. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Avery McKinney, Audrey and Leah Ilcisko, Pascal Salasovich, and Marjan Salasovich.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Michael Salis and Edward and three siblings who died during infancy.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue in Lorain with Parastas services observed at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin Friday at 9:15 a.m. with Panachida services in the funeral chapel. The Divine Liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 West 40th Street in Lorain. The Very Reverend Nicholas R.A. Rachford, J.C.L. pastor of St. Nicholas parish will officiate.
Richard will be buried in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio.
The family encourages contributions to either St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, the American Red Cross, or to the American Cancer Society.
