Clara Rose Barlow, 81, Avid Bowler & Volunteer

Photo of Clara Rose  Barlow Clara Rose Barlow (nee Zuchowski), 81, of Lorain, died Wednesday July 4, 2012 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain after a battle with cancer.

She was born June 16, 1931 in Howesville, West Virginia. She married George Barlow in 1950 and his railroad job brought them to Lorain in 1957.

Clara worked at the Five & Dime Store on Broadway in Lorain as a bookkeeper and was an independent sales representative for Tupperware and Avon products. She managed the Hungarian Club and Slovak Club and for the past 20 years worked as a cook and caterer at the Knights of Columbus in Lorain.

She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where she served as a volunteer with the St. Anthony School children in her younger years.

Clara bowled in several leagues in the area, volunteered at the food pantry and counseled homeless people. She enjoyed traveling the countryside, gambling trips, all kinds of music, spending time with her family and bird watching.

She is survived by her children Sandra Chapman (Daniel), Denise Sanchez (James), Diane Hannigan and Richard Barlow (Judy Gibson), all of Lorain, sister MaryAnne Liston of Lorain, grandchildren Ted Smith, Jr, Mark Smith, Denia, Jessica, Nicholette and James Sanchez, Jr, Garreth, Bianca and Elizabeth Hannigan, Nachelle, Cara, Ciera, Richard, Jr and Autumn Barlow and Caleb and Charlie Gibson, many great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George Barlow in 1978, sons Randall Barlow in 1977 and Georgie Barlow in 1961 and parents Edward and Mary Zuchowski (nee Pienkowski).

The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Richard Hudak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
