Laura M. Melia , 91, Loving Wife, Mother & Grandmother

Mrs. Melia was born in Cleveland on June 17, 1921, the daughter of the late John and Laura (nee Andersen) Erbs. She was a graduate of Wakeman High School Class of 1939. She was also a graduate of the Cleveland School of Cosmetology in 1940. She was a member of the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church.
She began her career as a hairdresser at O'Neils Department Store and in 1955 opened The Home Beauty Shop. She retired in 1978.
A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she also enjoyed cooking, reading, ceramics, traveling, gardening, bowling, and golfing.
Mrs. Melia is survived by a daughter, Wilma J. (Thomas) McFadden of Lorain, a son, Larry W. (Barbara) Melia of Avon, grandchildren Christopher (Lindsay) McFadden, Elizabeth (Andre) Board, Susan (Jeffrey) Burke, and Kathryn Melia, great grandchildren, Alexander Board, Andre Board Jr, Quentin Board, Cassandra McFadden, Penelope McFadden, Finn Burke and great great grandchild Alexander Board Jr.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2008 by her beloved husband of 67 years William Melia, a great granddaughter Katrina Board, sister Gerda Sturm, brothers Erhardt Erbs, Johannes Erbs, Hocken Erbs and Albert Erbs.
Friends may call on Friday, September 28, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 29, 2012 in the funeral home at 11:00 am with Rev. Greg Sellers, pastor of the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, OH.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, 7445 Deer Trail Lane, Lorain OH 44053, or to Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
